About the Saving Wild Tigers Volunteer Project

Saving Wild Tigers is a network of volunteers. We volunteer our time and expertise (and often money) because we care about the vanishing tiger.  Our officers are:

Nina Rao, Co-Chair, is also the President of Rare Earth Explorations which operates wildlife safaris in Africa and India. She travels frequently to India and explores the tiger reserves.

Sunil Somalwar, Co-Chair, is a Sierra Club volunteer activist from New Jersey and a  Professor of Physics at Rutgers University.

Saving Wild Tigers is affiliated with the New Jersey Chapter of the Sierra Club. Our tiger conservation activities are selected on basis of advice from the world's tiger experts such as Dr. Ullas Karanth of the Wildlife Conservation Society and Valmik Thapar, a renowned Indian conservationist, author, and photographer.

We believe in a low cost approach to environmental education and conservation. We have no staff, we do not do bulk mailings or distribute trinkets or glossy brochures. Your donations go straight to the tiger. Combined with the purchasing power of the dollar (or a pound...) in the tiger habitat, Saving Wild Tigers gives a good bang for every donated buck. Our publicity is by word-of-mouth, so we count on you to act as a goodwill ambassador for the tiger and spread the word about our efforts.
